Shamanism is not a religion, nor is it a specific set of practices. It is a way of being in the world based on tens of thousands of years of human experience. All healing has its roots in shamanic practice, as does all spirituality and religion have its roots in the shamanic experience. Contemporary shamanism is an approach to living that integrates established shamanic concepts and practices into everyday life. It is a holistic approach to living that powerfully recombines the ordinary and the spiritual-the contemporary and the ancient. This presentation and dialog addresses these issues and more: ~ What is a shaman? ~ What are eight common characteristics of shamanism? ~ What are Power Animals? ~ What is a shamanic journey? ~ What is soul retrieval and curse healing? ~ How can shamanic practices make my life more meaningful and fulfilling?

Gerry Starnes, M.Ed. Teacher - Author - Presenter - Practitioner Gerry Starnes is an Austin, Texas area teacher, facilitator, and practitioner. He is the author of the award-winning book, Spirit Paths: The Quest for Authenticity, and several other spirit-oriented publications. A light-hearted and engaging speaker, Gerry has offered workshops and presentation for more than 15 years. In 2003, he established the first shamanic journey circle in Austin, which still continues weekly. He created the six-month immersive Spirit Paths program, the basis for the book. He also has created more than a dozen videos on shamanic topics, hosted in the Shamanic Passages YouTube channel. Gerry is a shamanic and Reiki practitioner, and a Traditional Tribal Healer of the Turtle Healing Band.
